Chief William "Bill" Spearman

Protecting The People

     William "Bill" Spearman started his law enforcement career in 1980 in Illinois.  In 1983, Chief Spearman began with the Abbeville Police Department as an Auxiliary Patrolman.  In 1984 Chief Spearman was hired full time.  Chief Spearman held many positions in the police department, including being Patrolman, Patrolman First Class, Patrol Sergeant, Juvenile Officer, D.A.R.E. Officer and School Resource Officer.

     Chief Spearman retired in 2012 and immediately began working with the Abbeville City Marshal's Office and served as a Deputy Coroner for the Vermilion Parish Coroner's office until 2018.

     Chief Spearman was elected in 2018 to the postion of Abbeville Police Chief.

     Chief Spearman and his wife Marcella have two children and seven grandchildren.
